After school and during the summer, I did individual tutoring for predominantly primary school pupils. We got together in their living rooms or in the local library. Hourly rates were established, and I sourced and arranged for all the resources myself. Being a special education teacher for a long time at two different schools in the area put me in touch with many parents of students with disabilities. People always heard about me through recommendations, so I never had to do any kind of advertising. Although I did have a website at one point, I rarely updated it. I usually had a lot going on, especially during the warmer months of the year. Usually, I would consult with the classroom instructor to find out where I might best direct my teaching and remedial efforts. It was also beneficial to learn the student's preferred method of learning. Frequently, parents would entrust me with their paperwork and report card grades. Each time I worked with a student as a tutor, I recorded our sessions and updated the student's parents in writing, via phone calls or emails if necessary.   However, I have never tutored online or for a tutoring company, so I am not familiar with the curricula or methods employed in those contexts, despite the fact that my students and I made extensive use of technology and the internet during our sessions.   Participating in one-on-one tutoring sessions was a pleasurable and fruitful experience. I enjoyed spending time with my students, and we became quite close. The supplemental funds came as a pleasant surprise. I've had to stop tutoring because of a debilitating illness, and I really miss my kids.
