Open sidebar Teacher of English Experience As a teacher of English, I have had the privilege of working in both preparatory schools and secondary schools. In my experience, these two types of schools have distinct differences in terms of student demographics, curriculum, and teaching methodologies. In preparatory schools, my students were usually in the age range of 8-15 years old. These schools had a strong focus on academic excellence. The curriculum emphasized foundational skills such as grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. I found that these students were highly motivated and eager to learn, as they were preparing for the next stage of their education. My approach to teaching in preparatory schools involved a combination of traditional methods such as lectures and written assignments, as well as more interactive activities such as group work and classroom discussions. I found that incorporating games and storytelling into my lessons helped to engage the younger students and make the learning process more enjoyable. In contrast, secondary schools had a more diverse student population, including a wider range of ages and academic abilities. The curriculum in secondary schools was more varied and included literature, writing, and critical thinking. I found that students in secondary schools were more independent and self-directed in their learning, but also faced greater academic pressures and expectations. My approach to teaching in secondary schools involved more collaborative activities such as group projects, debates, and presentations. I also incorporated technology and multimedia tools into my lessons to help keep students engaged and create a more dynamic learning experience. Overall, my experiences as a teacher of English in both preparatory and secondary schools have been highly rewarding. While the teaching methods and student populations differed, the common thread was my passion for sharing my love of English language and literature with my students and helping them to become confident and proficient communicators.
